June is a busy month seeds to be planted hay to be harvested. we are lucky this year as summer has come early and we were able to start planting in May . I have most of my new herb garden in . Our main garden is half way there also , we still have some warmer weather seeds to plant .
We plan on taking our first cut of hay starting the second week of June . It is always a good feeling to get the first bale in the barn but an even better feeling getting the last bale in the barn and the loft is full.
Babies are growing nicely . Some lambs are ready to wean , and we even just had a set of ewe lambs born last week . I hope to shear this week and yes I am very late .
Goat kids are growing well and I am already thing of fall breedings ….fall yuck . The girls are milking nicely and are staying healthy on there new feed program . I wish the milking parlor was all setup but I guess in time .
The pigs are growing nicely on all the extra milk . We have 2 ready for butcher already . 4 more will be ready in 6 weeks or so and then we have 4 little ones coming next week.. We will probably put 3-4 in our freezer and sell the rest .
The beef calves are getting really really big . Well they should be they are drinking 4 gallons of goats milk each daily . Mikaylee is working with them so they will be ready come fair time . They can be a little pig-headed at times but she doesn’t put up with much from them . She is really my right hand around the farm .
Mikaylee’s Jerseys calf’s are doing nicely also . Blair will be bred after fair. She has grown nicely and is drop dead gorgeous. Lila is coming along well and will not be bred til next year .
June 11th
We have several new additions to announce . First Mikaylee’s Boer goat gave birth to 2 healthy baby boys . 1 traditional and one red . Both are healthy and doing fine .
Addition number two is our new Blue Heeler Jack . We are hoping Jack becomes our right hand when moving stock to and from pasture.
